Orientation Day, Tian An Men Square, Forbidden City

We slept better last night. We ate breakfast and typed yesterday's post this morning. Sorry we didn't get it typed in last night but as you can tell, we had a BIG day yesterday!

Our orientation with Holt started at 9 am. They went through various topics that we've already read about as well as some new ones. Iris lead the meeting and explained that the Chinese people who want to have their pictures taken with Americans are most likely tourists themselves and come from rural areas and probably have never seen a western person before. I found that very interesting!

At the end of the meeting Iris had more recent pictures of all of our children. That's what we all were excited for! Beibei's picture came up on the screen. She still has very little hair! Then they gave us each a book with several pictures and more current measurements and information. She's apparently recenty started walking and weighs almost 16 lbs. Very small. She's almost 26 1/2" tall. The most exciting thing for me under the "Favorite Toy" section it says "She likes colorful toys. She likes music very much." So, I lost it! We are so excited to meet her tomorrow afternoon! Apparently she's still on a bottle but has been introduced to solid food.

After the meeting we had a huge Chinese-style meal with the big lazy susan in the middle of the table. We try everything although we might not like everything!

At 1 pm, Penny met us all in the lobby (there are 5 families -- 10 people) and took us to Tian An Men Square and the Forbidden City. Today is a very hot day. Apparently it's normally cooler at this time of the year. We did a one-way tour where Penny started us at the south end of the square and we walked pretty much straight north through the Forbidden City stopping occasionally for Penny to explain various things. We were all obviously very hot and tired so we just left and didn't hang out very long in the gardens.

When we got back to the hotel Tony ran up to the room to get the chocolates while I kept Penny there for a few minutes. She was excited to receive the dark chocolates. She has been so good to us EVERY step of the way! She will take us and Dan & Brian to the airport tomorrow. In Guangzhou we will have Holt escorts. Penny works for a tour company that Lotus hires.

We're going to go look for a couple of books at a bookstore yet tonight and then when our laundry comes back, we'll pack. We have to be in the lobby by 6:30 am tomorrow to get to the airport.

Oh Sue... you are making me cry at my desk! I am sure you were so excited to get the new photos and information about Beibei. In a few hours when you get to hold her, it will be even better.

Warm Wishes,
Ellie
