Free Day

Last night was a little more challenging. We think either Beibei's 2-hour nap was too long or we gave her formula too close to bedtime or both. Not sure. I was beat and could not stay awake anymore. Tony finally got her down at 11 pm. She woke up at 1 something and I figured she had to be wet so I changed her diaper. Yep! Wet! Got her back to bed. Then about 3:00 I coughed and she woke up again. I cradled her real close and made sure she was completely asleep before laying her back down. She stayed asleep till 6:50!

Daddy gave her a bottle while I got ready. When I got out of the shower, I thought it was time Daddy did his first diaper change. He was lucky. She was still dry so it wasn't hard. We put a pretty pink dress on her today. It's been warm and humid here (think "Florida").

Beibei is getting more comforable with us. She gets down and walks by herself more. She'll walk to one of us and we'll pick her up. She's blowing kisses and waving more now -- to US! She also started SMILING more for US this morning! Yeah! That made us very happy!

We went down to breakfast and Beibei didn't really eat much this morning. She must have gotten a more tart piece of pineapple because she stopped eating it after that.

We came back up to the room and got laundry ready to take to our favorite shop. Tony dropped off the laundry while I posted yesterday's post and read some emails. Thank you for all the comments. We enjoy reading them! We also got a couple more nipples for the bottle we got the other day.

Next we walked down the street to find another shop that someone had told us about. They are no pressure and good prices. We'll go back there again. While we were there, Beibei fell asleep -- completely. We headed back to the hotel. Tony had her by then and put her in the crib with grandma's quilt. She slept about a 1/2 hour.

We keep trying to get her interested in the stuffed animals and dolls we brought but she keeps pulling away and doesn't want to touch them yet. I'm sure that will change, too!

While she slept I went to Holt's office to have the directions on the rice and oatmeal translated. Catherine said tomorrow we could go somewhere like the zoo or a park or Buddist temple to have her blessed or if we are interested in seeing historical buildings. We'll need to let her know today what we want to do tomorrow.

For lunch today we went down to the deli and had some Chinese food. I had a pork thing but there was something slimy and scary-looking also mixed in so didn't try that part. Also a green leafy Chinese vegetable and rice. Tony had curried chicken and the vegetable and rice.

We played in the play room for quite a while after lunch. Beibei's personality is starting to come out and she's smiling more and becoming more vocal. When she smiles she sticks out her tongue and we can see about 9 teeth (4 molars).

We took a nap this later afternoon after Beibei played with some animal learning cards I brought over. She picks them up and puts them in another pile like she's sorting them.

We went to eat at Subway tonight and then got some ice cream. While we were eating the ice cream outside the store, the store people realized there was a rat hanging out in the doorway! One guy got a broom and a long-handled dust pan to catch it in (right!). Eventually he caught it in a plastic bag. He put that in another plastic bag and put rocks in it and threw it in the river. Great! Dinner and a show!

We stopped at our favorite shop and the owner's son was there now. He's 4 and the owner, Michael, had told his son we were going to stop by to see him. He was very excited to meet us. We took pictures of his family and he said our laundry would be ready in an hour.

We keep finding out new things Beibei can do. She LOVES music and whenever she hears music (and sometimes when only she hears music in her world) she sways or bounces. She can clap. And, of course, she can blow kisses and wave. She want to eat anything we are eating. She got to have a little ice cream tonight. We also finished the chocolate chip cookies I brought and she had a couple peices of those. I think we'll wait till we get home to have more including the chocolate part when we have a high chair tray! She also likes to play "drop the keys and have mama or baba fetch".

We have decided to go to a park and a temple tomorrow. We have to meet Joyce at the Holt office at 9:00. Next week we will probably get to go see the orphanage where Beibei lived as well as the place where she was found.
