Medical Exam Day

We were all in bed by 9:30 last night -- Beibei by 9:10. She woke up briefly at 4:00 but was back asleep by 4:10. Maybe she has bad dreams that wake her up. Not sure. I got up at 7 and Beibei and Daddy were still lying in bed, but awake, when I got out of the shower. Daddy gave her her bottle and then changed her diaper and dressed her for the day.

We went down to breakfast and the other families that we met in Beijing were there. Andrew and his daughter, Leah, (his wife has gone home) arrived at 5 pm last night. Dan & Brian and Sadie got in at midnight, Loreen & John and their daughter, Riley (could be spelled different from this?), got in at 10:00. The California couple and their daughter, Lulu, were also eating breakfast. We told them all about the play room and to make sure they get their Barbies. All of them had to meet at 9:00 to get visa photos taken. There was also another couple who went right to their province and had not stopped in Beijing. They had done the Beijing thing 4 years ago when they came and got their daughter. This time they got Daniel from southern China (they had flown into Nanning).

When they left we came back to the room to brush our teeth and play and wait till our 11:00 time to go to the medical exam.

At 11:00 we met the other families and Joyce led us to the Physical Examination Clinic. We walked about 15 minutes. By the time we got there Beibei was asleep. It's also a very sunny and humid/hot day today so we were all very hot by the time we got there. Joyce led us all through the door labeled Physical Exams for Adopted Children. We all gathered in a room with 3 rooms off of that room. We had to answer 4 questions on a paper and then we all eventually visited each of the three rooms. Our first room was the ENT room where they checked her eyes, ears, etc. Beibei did NOT like that at all! She was crying so much she didn't respond to sounds. Once she calmed down the doctor hit the piano sounds again and she turned her head towards that. Our next room was the Height, Weight, Measure room She didn't like that any better! She's 16.2 lbs, 27" tall and had a temp of 98.4 degrees F. The last room was the Medical, Surgery room. They take off their clothes there and look under the diaper for any problems. NONE of the children like that room! Beibei was no exception! Wow! She's got some lungs on her!

Once we were done with the exam we were free to go. We stopped and got an ice cream bar for each of us -- really good! -- and tried to cool down! We got back to the room and played and eventually took a short nap. Beibei did not want to go to sleep! She's strong, but I'm stronger! We got her up only 45 minutes later and she didn't want to wake up! We're trying to force a schedule today and she's grumpy!

At 3:00 all 6 families gathered at a red couch for a picture of all the newly adopted children. One CRIED for her daddy! The rest, including Beibei, just sat or stood there. Then all the children and parents gathered for a big group picture. We were able to visit with Catherine about tomorrow. Going to the zoo will cost way more than we want to spend so we will only go visit the orphanage and the finding site. That's way more important to us than going to a zoo. We'll go to the zoo when we get home. So... we'll meet at 8:30 tomorrow morning for that trip and we should be back round noon.

Also tomorrow is our US Consulate appointment. We don't have to go -- Holt goes for us.

After pictures, we went and ate at Lucy's again. Then we walked through a park near the hotel and visited with one of the other families. Next it was play room time. There was another family in there who just got their 2-year-old daughter yesterday. This couple is from Washington state and had lived for a short time in west Omaha.

We came back to the room for a bottle and I got laundry ready to take to Michael's and post this post.

Tomorrow we get to see the Dongguan Orphanage. Only three more nights and we get to come home!

3 more nights ... I am sure you are ready to be back in Omaha. Spring is here so you should have some good weather to play with Beibei outdoors on your maternity leave from work :) I'll email the Idol 411 after the show tonight.

Warm Regards,
Ellie
