Happy 2nd Birthday, Dawson!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BIG BOY!

Today Dawson turned the big 2!  We had family and friends over on Sunday afternoon for cake and home made ice cream.  I also had regular ice cream and brownies available.  And, of course, chocolate syrup and caramel syrup.  Each person could concoct whatever they wanted.

Dawson really didn't know what to think about all the people.  I think he kind of gets overwhelmed around a lot of people still.  He didn't really know to blow out the candles so I helped him a bit.  He REALLY enjoyed his cake, though!

Then he opened his presents.  He had a LOT of help opening his presents.  He got lots of toys and some clothes.

Then tonight we gave him our gifts from us.  I had been thinking since we brought him home that he needed a little Husker cap his size since he likes to put on Daddy's caps and my Husker cap.  So I went and got one of those -- just in time for the first game on Saturday!  The other 2 things we got him were a set of 26 soft blocks so he can build things (they can also go in his mouth (which everything does anyway) and be thrown a bit and won't hurt) and a Melissa & Doug Latches Board.  This proved to be the most popular toy of the night.  He concentrated for quite a while on getting the latches open to be able to open the doors and see what was behind them.  Even though it says it's for age 3+, I knew he would like it because he likes to try to figure out how things work.  He's really a smart kid!

So, enjoy the pictures.

But he opened presents like a pro!

He's reaching for the Husker bag first!

OK, I'll look up from the latches board and give you a cheesy grin!

Happy Birthday, Dawson!
We love you!

First Day of Pre-K!

Yesterday was Meighan's first day of Pre-Kindergarten.  I went in to work late.  I took Dawson to daycare and then Meighan to her new school.  We were super early and were told to wait in the lobby.  We watched all kinds of kids walking through from their busses (I think).  Finally I asked someone if we could go back to the room.  She said she would check.  In the meantime, someone else told us we could go on back.

The first person was coming back and introduced herself as the speech pathologist.  I told her she would get to work with Meighan!  I was very glad to meet her.

We got back to the room and there was already a line of parents/full families (!) bringing their kids to pre-K.  My impression was "I hope most of the kids speak English!".  I filled out a contact sheet and Meighan was pulled into the room with her teacher who started getting kids involved right from the start.  I got a packet of booklets and forms to fill out and gave Meighan a hug and kiss and went to work.

When I picked her up from daycare, she said "I had fun at school today!"  She said the same thing today.  I hope that continues for a VERY long time!

She also has a sudden interest in learning to tie her shoes!  Yippee!  So we started last night with some cards I had bought last February and she ALMOST has it down already!

So, we had a great start to the school year!
